Motivational Monday – 5/13/2013

I can safely say my checklist is completed today… Can you?

Motivational Monday – 4/22/2013

This Motivational Monday couldn’t have come at a better time. A little while ago, a friend of mine posted this on my Facebook page. I thought it was great and have to share it.

I am still waiting for my 7 week check up (that’s this Thursday) but I have started “running” a little. Yesterday I wanted to visit my friend in the hospital. She had her little baby girl but wanted to get my walk in beforehand.

I did my normal 3.5 mile loop around the neighborhood and park but was trying to finish it a little faster than normal. I added a little “running” using geographical markers (like light posts, stop signs, trees, etc) to do intervals. I put running in quotations because my run is probably someone else’s fast pace walk. But it still counts to me… it’s faster than my walk… so it’s running. Lol. I finished my route in 58 minutes which is like 16 minutes and some change per mile. Much faster than my 22 min mile pace. I did find that I needed my inhaler when I got home. Definitely taking that with me next time.

After I get cleared on Thursday, I plan on adding running more often into my routine. I am planning on training with some friends of mine so that I can do it properly and hopefully learn to love it (I roll my eyes as I say this last part). They ensure me that it is enjoyable and relaxing. Apparently they’ve never been as out of shape as I am or had asthma. Lol. But we shall see. 🙂

Use this as scary motivation. If this doesn’t freak you out, I don’t know what will. So creepy.

Motivational Monday – 4/08/2013

Today’s Motivational Monday is about something I love very much and I’m sure many of you out there do.

Rewarding yourself!!!

Do not reward yourself with food, you are not a dog!

Before surgery, this was me 100%. I would reward myself with food all the time. I got through a really stressful day without flipping out, here’s a whole pizza. Yay, I walked for 15 minutes, here’s a double scoop ice cream cone. I got A’s in all my classes, here’s a pitcher of sangria. I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy those times… because I sure did. But I would reward myself for the dumbest and smallest feats.

For a healthier life, we all need to learn to reward ourselves with other things besides food. Try simple things like a pedicure or a nice shopping trip. Maybe a movie or go bowling. Heck, even a nice walk on a sunny afternoon.

So, I have decided that I am going to start a healthier rewards system for myself. I am a bit of a clothes shopping addict (and shoes and music and candles… the list can go on). Anyways. I have decided that I am not buying myself any clothes until I have truly earned it. For each pound I lose, I am putting 10 dollars aside for things I will need on this weight loss journey. They are not limited to clothing, though a huge chunk of this reward money will go to clothing but it can go to anything that makes this a healthy lifestyle. So far I’ve lost 35.4 lbs. That means I have $350 to spend on myself. And I have spent a good portion of that already… What did I get? Good things, obviously!

The first thing I bought was my FitBit Aria Electronic Scale. I use this twice a week (Sundays and Wednesdays). It measures weight and body fat percentage and uploads it automatically to my FitBit account. Since my FitBit is connected to my account on My Fitness Pal, it also updates that automatically. The second thing I bought was the FitBit One Tracker. This is used to track my daily activity and sleep levels. It let’s you set goals and measures your habits, displaying them on neat little charts and graphs (which I love). And the third thing I bought was a Bento Laptop Lunchbox system. I am waiting for it to be delivered this week. It will be great for bringing my lunch to work (since I have to bring 2-3 meals worth). And I still have money to spare and save for my next reward. All of these things fit my new lifestyle and are just as exciting to get.

Motivational Monday – 4/01/2013

Hi everyone! 🙂 It feels like it’s been forever since I wrote on here. This past week feels like it has been the longest week ever. I’ve been really busy with a DBMS project for school. So far 33 pages of SQL code and about 24 pages of the presentation paper and I’m not even 1/2 way done yet. I will definitely be happy when this semester is over with. And kudos to those of you, fellow nerds, who know what I’m talking about without looking it up. Hehe. 🙂

Anyways, today’s motivational Monday is all about PATIENCE… the one thing I do not have.

These past two weeks have really been frustrating me. The first two weeks I lost about 5 pounds a week. Then last week only 2.5. This week has been really slow too. I have only weighed myself once (yesterday) but I’m not much farther down than I was. It’s really annoying. I know I just need to stick with the program and up my protein and the rest will come naturally… but the waiting is KILLING me!

I found the above motivational image/quote that describes exactly how I’m feeling and to remind me that I’m only human. That we are all different yet all the same. No matter what our obstacles are, we will hit many along our journey to greatness. What defines us is how we deal with these obstacles. Do we give in? Or do we overcome? That choice is all our own. As for me, I plan to keep trudging on, hoping that if I do what I’m supposed to, I will see the results I want and learn patience along the way.

Happy Motivational Monday everyone! Don’t lose sight of your end goal. 🙂

Motivational Monday & Update – 3/11/2013

Today I’ve decided to start a new little series of posts and just stop them when I run out of things to post. It’s called:

On Monday, I’m going to try to post a little image or video that gives me motivation to stay on this journey and hopefully it will help all of you. Today I found the following quote that I think is perfect for the beginning of my journey. It is so correct. To see changes down the road, we have to start making them today. NO MORE WAITING… just DOING. Whether it be exercise, eating right, or just starting some healthy habit (or giving up a bad habit) try and start one this week. Mine will be to get all my fluids in per day (64oz a day). You can track my fluid (and food) intake on my myFitnessPal food diary.

I also wanted to give you a little update. I actually did 2 videos because I forgot some stuff I wanted to talk about in the first video. 🙂
